An independent publication about keeping an ordinary household running when the power or the water stops.

What this site is

My Survival Zone publishes plain, practical writing about household preparedness. Our subject is the short, local interruption that actually happens — a storm takes a line down, a water main is replaced, a substation trips — and what a household can sensibly do about it in advance.

We are not interested in the end of the world. We are interested in the second day without water, which is a far more likely problem and a far easier one to solve.

Who we are

My Survival Zone is published by Pedro Henrique Andrade Moreira, based in Vitória da Conquista, Bahia, Brazil. The full postal address and contact details appear in the footer of every page. We are a small independent publisher. We are not an emergency service, a utility, a government agency, a medical provider or an insurer, and we have no affiliation with any of them.

What we do not do

We do not give advice about your particular home, health or circumstances, and we are not qualified to. We do not promise that preparation will keep anyone safe — it reduces risk, it does not remove it. We do not publish material aimed at people who are living through an emergency right now; that belongs with the authorities responding to it. How the writing is produced

Our starting points are the published materials of the agencies whose job this is: emergency management agencies, public health authorities, utilities, fire services and recognised training organisations. Where guidance differs between countries — and on this subject it often does — we say so rather than presenting one country's rule as universal. Every page is read through a safety check before it is published. The method is set out in full in our Editorial Policy, which also explains how we use software tools and how corrections are handled.

How the site is paid for

My Survival Zone is funded by advertising. We say so plainly, we label paid placements, and commercial relationships play no part in what we publish. The details are in our Advertising Policy.

Telling us we are wrong

We would rather be corrected than be wrong. If anything here is inaccurate, out of date, or phrased in a way that could lead someone into difficulty, write to corrections@mysurvivalzone.com with the page and the problem. We fix things promptly and we are glad to credit whoever noticed.
