General information only
Everything published on mysurvivalzone.com is general educational information written for a general audience. It is not professional advice of any kind — not medical, legal, financial, insurance, engineering, construction, electrical, plumbing or emergency-management advice — and it is not a substitute for consulting someone qualified to advise on your particular situation.
We are not what we write about
My Survival Zone is an independent publisher. We are not an emergency service, a utility company, a water authority, a government agency, a medical provider, an insurer, a licensed contractor, or a certified training organisation. We have no authority to issue guidance about your area, and we have no access to information about what is happening where you live.
Your circumstances are not ours
Homes differ in construction, plumbing, heating, electrical supply and local regulation. People differ in health, mobility, medication and responsibilities. Regions differ in climate, hazards, water systems and the law. No general article can account for those differences, and this one does not attempt to. You remain responsible for judging what is appropriate, safe and lawful for you.
Safety matters that deserve specific caution
- Combustion and carbon monoxide. Any appliance that burns fuel produces carbon monoxide, which cannot be seen or smelled. Never operate a generator, camping stove, grill or similar device indoors, in a garage, or near an opening into the home. Install and maintain a working carbon monoxide alarm.
- Electricity. Work on electrical installations, including the connection of any generator to a building's wiring, requires a qualified electrician and compliance with local regulations. Incorrect connection can kill utility workers.
- Water safety. Methods of treating water vary in what they remove. Guidance issued by your water utility or local health authority about a specific incident always takes precedence over general information.
- Health and medication. Decisions about medication, medical devices and existing conditions belong with a pharmacist or doctor, discussed in advance.
- Food safety. When there is doubt about whether food has remained safe, discard it.
